This is not an opportunity to focus on search engine optimization (SEO) nor suitable for someone with little to no coding experience.

SUMMARY
This position serves as a search & relevance engineering lead for the Mysask411 team with the mandate to optimize the search experience for web & mobile users and advertisers. This position is responsible for enhancing and maintaining the SOLR search platform to meet business objectives; engineering the search engine into a seemingly smart system that understands the needs of users and the business. Both technical strength and excellent collaboration skills are essential to this role as the engineer will work with both technical and non-technical team members in a cross-functional team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Model user personas, identify users’ typical needs and design search functionality that will meet those needs
2. Discover, select and generate features that provide appropriate information when a user searches
3. Integrate new sources of information to support user and business relevance requirements
4. Transform and clean data sources through transformation and analysis to support matching rules
5. Continually monitor search results and user interactions to identify new problems and unexpected use cases
6. Interpret user behavioral data to evaluate search relevance
7. Measure search “correctness” with test-driven relevancy
8. Recommend UI/UX enhancements to support search features such as refinements and recommendations
9. Document configurations and manage versions per best practices
10. Understand and use search engine functionality such as crawling, database connectors, indexing pipeline, query expansion, retrieval, and relevance ranking as it pertains to Mysask411
11. Responsible for deployment of all new versions, features and patches
12. Manage the day-to-day operations for data ingestion, processing and indexing for the search application
13. Maintain the stability and high availability of the search platform along with monitoring and responding to alerts
14. Troubleshoot & explain problems identified by end users
15. Participate in writing or reviewing software requirements documents, creating QA and UAT test cases, bug-tracking, and deployment processes
16. Proactively identify and advocate solutions, then pursue to successful completion.
17. Other related duties as required.
