This half day workshop will cover the basics of business and intellectual property law for people who are looking to learn more about intellectual property law. The event is for all members of the creative industries in Saskatchewan and is an open environment to learn more about intellectual and business law from an experienced legal professional. It is a great opportunity to ask all of your questions regarding intellectual property law, without all the legal fees!

The workshop will be held in Regina on January 24th and in Saskatoon on January 26th. The event will run from 9am-12pm followed by a networking lunch. In Saskatoon, the lunch is proudly sponsored by Innovation Place.

The event is a half day workshop and will cover:

• The basics of business law: Should I incorporate?
• The basics of intellectual property: What are patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyright?
• How do I protect and enforce my intellectual property?
• Doing business online-protecting IP in a borderless technological world.

All of resources will be made available electronically after the workshop.

We are proud to announce that the course will be facilitated by Steven Seiferling. Steve is a practicing Saskatchewan lawyer whose day job is with a large mining company. Prior to his current job, Steve spent a number of years in private practice doing intellectual property law (copyright, patent, trademark, commercial), labour and employment law, privacy law, and technology law. Steve still stays involved with intellectual property, offering services primarily in copyright law to visual artists, musicians, software and website developers, and others. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Group and the Co-Chair of the Copyright Committee. When he’s not busy practicing law, Steve enjoys spending time with his son, at the gym, and sometimes on the rugby pitch.
