Biography / Description |
Rene is an Indigenous programmer, engineer, and digital artist with experience as a professional in the tech industry since 2009. He has developed AR and VR applications for high profile clients such as the Mayo Clinic, Legendary Pictures, and RCMP depot. Rene taught at SIAST for 2 years and is passionate about developing the tech talent in Saskatchewan and bridging the digital divide in the First Nation communities. To that end, Rene has taught programming, digital art, and 3d printing through the Regina Public Library, Mackenzie Art Gallery, Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre, The North Central Hacker Dojo, Indigenous Friends Association, and Kids Code Jeunesse. Rene loves to create visual art using traditional methods as well as emerging technology. He uses the mediums to explore how people and society change due to changes in technology and what that means to our essence as human beings. In 2020 Rene's piece Brokenness through Beauty was featured at Nuit Blanche Regina. It used the destructive visuals of glitch art to destroy still images and video and highlight the brokenness of the justice system in regards to Indigenous peoples.
